Real Madrid returned empty-handed from Mallorca’s stadium after a 2-1 defeat in Saturday evening’s La Liga match, part of the 30th round of fixtures.
This result leaves Real Madrid with 69 points in second place, giving their arch-rivals, Barcelona, a golden opportunity to extend their lead to seven points if they manage to defeat Atlético Madrid in the same round.
According to Defensa Central, the match saw manager Álvaro Arbeloa visibly angry with his players’ performance, particularly Kylian Mbappé and Eduardo Camavinga.
Mbappé returned to the starting lineup after recovering from injury but squandered three clear-cut chances that could have changed the course of the game, all brilliantly saved by the Mallorca goalkeeper. Camavinga, meanwhile, failed to control the midfield, forcing the coaching staff to substitute him just minutes into the second half in an attempt to address the team’s deficiencies in both attack and defense.
This loss reflects Real Madrid’s fragility in crucial moments and highlights the need to review their collective performance, particularly in controlling the midfield and capitalizing on easy scoring opportunities. It also increases the pressure on the team in the league title race, as they cannot afford to drop any points against their arch-rivals Barcelona, who appear ready to exploit any slip-up to solidify their position at the top of the table.
