Reports have revealed Chelsea’s strong push for a major swap deal with Barcelona during the upcoming transfer window, a move that could ignite the European transfer market.
According to sources, Chelsea owner Todd Boehly has proposed a swap deal with Barcelona involving Argentine midfielder Enzo Fernández moving to the Catalan club in exchange for Dutch midfielder Frenkie de Jong.
This comes amid Fernández’s desire to leave Chelsea, following dissatisfaction with the team’s performance and inconsistent results, as well as his disagreement with some of the management’s recent decisions.
Meanwhile, Barcelona is not ruling out the possibility of de Jong’s departure, especially given the uncertainty surrounding his future at the club and the potential financial and sporting benefits of such a transfer.
Although Fernández’s market value is estimated at around €120 million, Chelsea’s management might be more flexible in negotiations if de Jong is included in the deal, as he is a highly sought-after player at the English club.
However, reports indicate that Barcelona coach Hansi Flick is not keen on signing a new midfielder at the moment, given his confidence in the development of several young talents within the squad, most notably Marc Bernal.
