German media reports indicate that Jürgen Klopp is close to taking over as manager of Real Madrid, a move that could ignite the summer transfer market and usher in a new era at the Santiago Bernabéu.
According to Kicker magazine, Klopp is very enthusiastic about the prospect, especially given his desire to return to coaching after a stint in a consultancy role with Red Bull. He misses the atmosphere of matches and being on the touchline.
Although no final agreement has been reached yet, communication between the two parties has continued over the past few months, amid a growing conviction within the club’s management, led by Florentino Pérez, that the German coach is the ideal choice to spearhead the rebuilding project.
First signing on the table
If he takes over from Álvaro Arbeloa, reports suggest that Klopp has already identified his first signing: German defender Nico Schlotterbeck, Borussia Dortmund’s star.
This move comes amid Real Madrid’s evident struggles in the centre-back position, resulting from recurring injuries and a decline in form among some players, coupled with the approaching end of contracts for both Antonio Rüdiger and David Alaba, and Éder Militão’s continued injury issues.
Schlotterbeck: the primary target
Schlotterbeck is considered one of the most prominent defenders in Europe today. He recently renewed his contract with Dortmund but included a release clause between €50 and €60 million, making him a potential target for the Royal Club.
Sources also indicate that the player prefers a move to Real Madrid despite interest from several major clubs, recognising the significant role he could play within the team, especially if Klopp takes over as manager.
The rebuilding project begins
These developments confirm that Real Madrid is preparing for a busy summer, with a clear plan to rebuild the team and restore its competitive edge after a period of decline.
With the managerial appointment nearing completion, all signs point towards radical changes that could completely reshape the team, from the coaching staff to the anticipated major signings.
