It is now almost certain that the English player will not remain at Barcelona, after the club’s management, led by the sporting director, decided not to activate the permanent purchase option, despite his recent performances.
Rashford joined Barcelona on loan from Manchester United after the Nico Williams deal fell through. He was brought in as an alternative to strengthen the attack during the last summer transfer window.
During the season, the player managed to record good statistics, reaching 14 goals and 14 assists. However, this was not enough to convince the coaching staff of the necessity of his continued presence in the team’s future project.
According to sources within the club, Barcelona believes that the purchase option, valued at around €30 million, does not reflect current priorities, especially given the management’s desire to direct resources towards more impactful long-term signings, both in attack and defense.
Reports also indicate that the club is considering paying the loan termination clause of approximately €5 million to return the player to Manchester United at the end of the season, instead of activating the purchase option.
As The Athletic explained, Pedri and the rest of Barcelona’s first-team captains are aware of Laporta and Deco’s intentions, so this weekend’s match will be the last they play alongside Rashford.
Despite his goal contributions, Barcelona’s management believes the new project relies on a different attacking structure, meaning Rashford’s continued presence is not part of their final plans for next season.
