Transfer Confirmed! Barcelona Say Goodbye to 13-Year Academy Prospect

La Masia product Alexis Olmedo has officially ended his 13-year association with Barcelona, sealing a permanent move to fellow La Liga side Celta Vigo.

The 20-year-old defender, primarily a central defender with the versatility to slot in at right-back, joined Barcelona’s youth setup back in 2013 and steadily climbed through the academy ranks.

However, with senior opportunities hard to come by under Hansi Flick and entering a pivotal stage of his career requiring regular first-team minutes, Olmedo opted to seek a fresh start elsewhere. Celta Vigo moved swiftly ahead of competing Spanish interest to finalize the agreement.

Barcelona confirmed the departure via an official club statement, noting that a sell-on clause has been retained for any future transfer involving the Manresa-born defender:

“FC Barcelona and RC Celta have reached an agreement for the transfer of defender Alexis Olmedo. The Club reserves a percentage of a future sale.”
