Punished, Then a Surprise U-Turn: What Happened Between Real Madrid’s Young Talent and His Coach?
Real Madrid have been dealing with a quiet crisis in recent days, after an ordinary match turned into a heated confrontation between one of the club’s young talents and his coach, ending with a surprise disciplinary decision that kept the player out of an entire matchday squad.
But the story did not end with the punishment. The club stepped in again just days later and made a decisive call, a move that shows how highly they rate this player, who has already trained under Jose Mourinho with the first team.
The player in question is young midfielder Jorge Cestero. According to AS, Real Madrid have lifted the disciplinary sanction imposed on him after his disagreement with Castilla coach Julian Lopez de Lerma, and he will be available for tomorrow’s clash with Atletico Madrileno at the Alfredo Di Stefano Stadium. Internally, all parties consider the matter resolved, with the aim of returning to normality.
The situation began during the 1-1 draw with Sant Andreu, when Cestero stayed on the bench for the whole game. After seeing he had been left out of the starting line-up, he asked the coach for an explanation and the two had a disagreement. The club then intervened and sanctioned him, leaving him out of the squad for the 2-1 defeat to Alcorcon.
Lopez de Lerma had already stressed the player’s importance: “We are in a development environment. We want all the players to be able to show themselves, compete and be part of the team. Jorge is, and will be, a very important player for us this season.” Cestero remains highly rated at Real Madrid: he made his senior debut last season, playing five times, then did pre-season with the first team under Mourinho and was named in some matchday squads at the start of the season.
