Diomande in Tears After First Real Madrid Goal: “This One Is for You, Sister.. Forever in My Heart”
It was not just a moment of joy after a decisive goal at the Santiago Bernabéu. The player who scored broke down in tears among his teammates and pointed a finger to the sky, before revealing hours later the secret behind those tears.
A short message on social media was enough to make everyone stop, and for Real Madrid fans to understand that this goal carried far more meaning than three points.
The player is Ivorian forward Yan Diomande, who scored Real Madrid’s winner in the 1-0 victory over Villarreal on Saturday night in the 62nd minute, from a superb through ball by Federico Valverde. It was his first goal for the club, and it stood after VAR overturned an offside flag.
Marca reported that Diomande broke down in tears after scoring, before posting an emotional message on social media: “This means more than words can explain. My first league goal is for you, sister. Forever in my heart.”
Diomande added in his message: “Very happy to score my first goal and help the team. Thank you all for your support. Let’s keep going!” According to Mundo Deportivo, Diomande lost his sister, who died at the age of 15, just a few weeks after he made his professional debut with Leganés.
Several Real Madrid stars quickly showed their support for their teammate after the message, including Arda Güler, Vinícius Júnior, Jude Bellingham and Antonio Rüdiger, a gesture that showed the atmosphere in the dressing room.
Speaking to Real Madrid TV after the game, Diomande said: “I’m happy. I had been waiting for that first goal for a while, and I’m happy for myself and for the team. In that position I think the only option was to control, turn and shoot.”
He continued: “It’s always good to play here. It’s the most beautiful stadium in the world and the biggest club. Playing here always excites me,” adding: “I’m very excited to play in the Champions League. It’s every child’s dream and I’m grateful to play in it with Real Madrid.”
Diomande left the pitch in the 86th minute to applause from the Bernabéu crowd, and his form comes at an important time: he competes with Vinícius Júnior for the left wing, while the Brazilian is set to miss El Clásico through suspension.
Real Madrid now prepare to face Roma in the Champions League on October 14, before hosting Sevilla in the league on October 18 and visiting Barcelona for El Clásico on October 25.
