Mourinho stuns Real Madrid’s board with a firm transfer decision.. and a fiery message for the press
Real Madrid head coach Jose Mourinho surprised everyone with a firm decision on the January transfer window, sending a clear message to the club’s board before the trip to Sevilla.
The Portuguese coach did not stop there. He also aimed a pointed message at the journalists in the press room and raised a provocative question about one of the team’s biggest stars.
According to GOAL, Mourinho said of the transfer market: “I do not see it as my right to demand the signing of new players. I prefer to work with a short squad. If we want to bring in a player, then another player has to leave,” adding: “If the club’s board decide to study any move, we will assess it, but I will not take the initiative in asking to sign players. I do not want new players.”
He continued: “It is easy for me not to have to announce the squad list, because I am not asking to sign new players, and I am happy with the current group. The players are improving, especially when we get time and calm,” and confirmed that Eder Militao will be in the squad against Sevilla.
On the difficulty of picking a team, he said: “We have more than 11 players who deserve to play, in fact the number reaches 15 or 16 players… Does Diomande not deserve to play? Does Cucurella not deserve to play? Does Valverde not deserve to play? Does Mbappe not deserve to play? This is one of the difficult aspects of a coach’s work.”
Mourinho also had a message for the media: “My colleagues who coach teams with fewer resources will say that I am lucky. It is a paradox that it is both my good fortune and my misfortune at the same time to deal with journalists like you, because you make the task more difficult.”
He insisted his decisions are based on his own analysis: “The stubborn coach who does not accept opinions is a limited coach, but the coach who constantly accepts the opinions of others is not necessarily a good coach.”
