Neymar Surprises Barcelona Fans With His Verdict on the MSN Era
Brazilian superstar Neymar has surprised football fans by naming his time at Paris Saint-Germain as the peak of his career, ranking his individual performances in France above his years at Barcelona despite the major successes he enjoyed with the Spanish club.
His comments have reopened the debate among Barcelona and PSG supporters over which version of Neymar was the best. At Barcelona, he formed the legendary MSN attacking trio with Lionel Messi and Luis Suárez, helping the Catalan club win the UEFA Champions League in 2015. Nevertheless, Neymar believes he reached his individual peak in Paris.

Speaking with Argentine content creator Davoo Xeneize, Neymar explained why he considers Paris Saint-Germain the best stage of his playing career. He said he felt stronger, faster and more intelligent on the pitch during his time with the French club.
According to comments reported by sports media, Neymar said: “I know people remember my time at Barcelona because of the MSN trio, but my best period as a player was in Paris, where I felt strong, fast and intelligent.” His remarks reflect his personal assessment of how his physical and tactical development progressed during his PSG years.
During his time at Barcelona between 2013 and 2017, Neymar produced outstanding performances alongside Messi and Suárez. He helped the team win a historic treble in the 2014–15 season, including La Liga, the Copa del Rey and the Champions League. That period also established him as one of the most exciting attacking players in European football.
Neymar’s spell at Paris Saint-Germain, which lasted from 2017 to 2023, gave him a different role on the pitch and more opportunities to influence games individually and creatively. According to statistics published by World Soccer Talk, Neymar scored 118 goals in 173 official appearances for PSG, compared with 105 goals in 186 appearances for Barcelona, giving him a higher goals-per-game rate in France.

In terms of trophies, Neymar enjoyed significant success with both clubs, although their achievements differed. With Barcelona, he won the Champions League, two La Liga titles and three Copa del Rey trophies. At PSG, he collected several domestic honours, including French league titles, but did not win the Champions League with the Parisian club.
Neymar also discussed his relationship with watching football in his free time. He explained that he generally does not enjoy sitting in front of the television to watch matches, despite football having been central to his professional life for many years. According to the report, he also spoke about wanting to enjoy a quiet period after retirement.

His comments highlight the difference between how a player evaluates his own peak and how supporters remember his career. For many Barcelona fans, the MSN era remains one of the club’s most memorable periods. Neymar, however, believes that Paris Saint-Germain saw the best version of him as an individual player.
