Press reports revealed an unexpected destination for Barcelona coach Xavi Hernandez during the coming period.
According to the Spanish newspaper “Mundo Deportivo”, Laporta insists on dismissing Xavi and not continuing him next season.
The newspaper added that Laporta’s anger is due to Xavi changing his promises, because when the coach came to the president’s house to discuss his continuation last April 24, he said that he sees himself able to compete and fight for everything with this team next season.
The newspaper indicated that Laporta has not issued a decision to dismiss Xavi yet because of the absence of Deco (the sporting director), who was in Portugal due to an urgent personal commitment. Deco will present a report on Xavi to Laporta before making the final decision.
It was reported that Laporta met with his deputy Rafa Yuste, CEO Soler and advisor Enrique Masip, and they agreed that it was logical not to announce Xavi’s dismissal before speaking with him.
The newspaper explained that the decisive meeting for Xavi’s future was postponed today pending the return of sporting director Deco from Portugal, and there are strong offers awaiting Xavi if he leaves Barcelona, most notably from the Dutch club Ajax and the Italian club Milan.
The newspaper confirmed that Laporta is currently insisting that Hernandez not continue, but on the other hand, Deco has always supported Xavi’s continuation, especially after speaking with him in a private meeting before the decision to continue was officially announced.
