Barcelona continues its efforts to sign several world-class players in order to restore the lost balance in the Catalan team’s lineup before the start of the new season.
German coach Hansi Flick is seeking to lead Barcelona to the top of the podium again after a very difficult season in which the Catalan team left without any title under the leadership of former coach Xavi Hernandez.
In light of this, media reports revealed that Barcelona was close to including Spanish star Dani Olmo, a player for German club Leipzig, before the summer Mercato closed.
The German club rejected the value proposed by Barcelona to sell Olmo, who won the Euro 2024 title with his country, during the first offer negotiations.
The Catalan newspaper Sport spoke about an offer sent by Barcelona to Leipzig to include the Spanish international, worth 50 million euros, in addition to about 15 million euros in variables.
For his part, reliable journalist Fabrizio Romano wrote on the X platform, “Barcelona reaches an agreement with Dani Olmo regarding a contract until June 2030, and sends a new official offer to Leipzig.”
He added, “Barcelona made an offer worth 55 million euros, in addition to additions worth an additional 3 and 4 million euros.”
Olmo, who is 26 years old, has a contract with Leipzig that extends until the summer of 2026.
The Catalan club turned its attention to the German Leipzig player after his brilliance in the European Nations Cup with Spain, the champion of the Euro 2024 edition.
Olmo scored 3 goals in the continental championship, and was among the top 6 scorers. He also achieved 8 goals and made 5 assists in 25 matches with Leipzig.
Barcelona is seeking to complete the purchase of Olmo quickly after Athletic Bilbao coach Ernesto Valverde announced that “Nico Williams” – one of the Catalan club’s targets during the summer Mercato – “will not leave the team.”
