Barcelona coach Hansi Flick decided to implement one of the ideas of former coach Xavi Hernandez, in order to solve a crisis in Barcelona’s midfield.
The German coach seeks to lead Barcelona to the top of the podium again after a difficult season from which the Catalan team emerged without any title.
According to the Spanish newspaper “Mundo Deportivo”, Flick decided to use Andreas Christensen as a defensive midfielder in the new season, in order to address the numerical shortage in this line.
Barcelona is suffering from the loss of Pedri, Javi and Frenkie de Jong in midfield due to injuries, and this matter prompted Flick to copy Xavi’s experience last season.
Xavi decided to try Christensen as a defensive midfielder last season, at the suggestion of Barcelona sporting director Deco.
