Barcelona president Joan Laporta has made an important decision to try to complete a deal to include Athletic Bilbao winger Nico Williams.
Barcelona is striving to strengthen its ranks in preparation for the new season’s competitions with full force after the disappointment that the Catalan team experienced last season.
“Sport” newspaper reported that Laporta decided to withdraw negotiating powers from the Portuguese sporting director, Deco, in exchange for him assuming this role himself.
Barcelona decided to sign German midfielder Dani Olmo from Leipzig after paying the release clause in the Spanish national team star’s contract, but the issue of contracting with Williams does not seem clear.
Williams joined Bilbao training after his vacation ended following the end of his participation in the 2024 European Championship, and there are no signs of the possibility of him joining Barcelona this summer.
But Laporta refuses to despair, which prompted him to lead the negotiation process, in response to the reaction of the fans who desperately wanted to include Williams, who formed an understanding duo with Blaugrana star Lamine Yamal in the continental championship in which Spain won the title.
The release clause in Williams’ contract with Bilbao is 58 million euros, which means that Barcelona will struggle to secure this amount, after paying the release clause in Olmo’s contract with Leipzig, which is worth 55 million euros.
