Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti seems to be impressed by the abilities of one of his young players, which prompted him to liken him to one of the legends who played under his supervision.
According to the AS newspaper, Ancelotti expressed his admiration for the team’s third goalkeeper, Fran Gonzalez, adding that the young goalkeeper reminds his Italian coach a lot of the Italian goalkeeper legend, Giannoleggi Buffon.
Gonzalez, 18, did not play any matches during Real Madrid’s preparatory tour of the United States, but Ancelotti was impressed by what he saw from him in training.
The newspaper added that this is not the first time that Ancelotti has praised Gonzalez, as he had previously praised him when he joined the first team’s training last season.
Thibaut Courtois is expected to return to Real Madrid’s goalkeeper in the new season, after being away from the team due to injury last season, despite the remarkable brilliance of the second goalkeeper, Ukrainian Andriy Lunin.
Ancelotti supervised Buffon’s training at Parma when he broke into the team at the age of 17, which foretells the possibility of giving Gonzalez a future opportunity, especially in light of the uncertainty regarding Lunin’s future.
Gonzalez is set to be Real Madrid Castilla’s first-choice goalkeeper this season, after Lucas Canizares recently moved to Farense in Portugal.
