Barcelona, headed by Joan Laporta, is seeking to strengthen the Catalan team during the current summer transfer window, especially after the failure of the deal to sign Nico Williams.
Luis Miguel Sanz, a journalist for the Spanish newspaper Sport, said that Barcelona is considering signing Federico Chiesa, the star of the first football team at Juventus.
The Bianconeri do not mind Chiesa leaving during the current summer Mercato, after Juve coach Thiago Motta decided not to rely on the player.
Sanz added: “Chiesa has been offered to Barcelona and is a viable option, and Barcelona is also considering the Italian option as a signing at the end of the Mercato.”
He continued by saying: “If Barcelona’s priority goals are not achieved in the Mercato, then they will move to conclude the deal to sign Chiesa immediately if he is available at the time.”
Sanz concluded: “Hans Flick strongly opposes signing the Italian player and believes that he will not provide the required addition to Barcelona, and his frequent injuries will lead to his absence from many important matches during the season.
Chiesa was not Barcelona’s first choice, as they also looked into signing Frenchman Kingsley Coman from Bayern Munich and Colombian Luis Diaz from Liverpool, in addition to Williams, but the financial cost is very high and does not fit the budget and the club’s delicate financial situation, according to Sport.
