Barcelona’s first football team achieved a difficult victory over its counterpart, Athletic Bilbao, with two goals to one in the match that brought them together a short while ago at the Montjuïc Stadium in the second round of the Spanish League.
In his statements, Flick expressed his satisfaction with the victory, but stressed the need to maintain calm amidst the success, saying: “If I am very happy, it is because winning brings happiness. It is good to have enthusiasm and leadership, but I demand more calm.”
When asked about the level of his player Robert Lewandowski, and whether he has returned to his usual level, he replied: “I think so. I know him well, he puts good pressure on the opponent, and I am very happy with what he offers. In the first half, he could have scored one or two more goals, this was my impression from the bench.”
Regarding Rafinha’s new position in midfield, Flick explained: “Rafinha can play in any attacking position. He can play as a number 10 or even change his position, which is good for us in the pressing process. The idea of playing him in this position strengthens the team’s performance in the pressing process.”
The coach added: “Rafinha had a perfect match, he deserves praise for it, and he outperformed Lamine Yamal and Robert Lewandowski.”
Flick also referred to his conversation with Athletic Bilbao’s Nico Williams after the match, saying: “I congratulated Nico Williams on winning the European Championship with Spain.”
