Spanish press reports revealed a major surprise regarding the secret of star Nico Williams’ refusal to move to Barcelona during the current summer transfer period 2024.
It is noteworthy that Barcelona had put Nico Williams on its list of priorities to strengthen the team’s ranks this summer, but Laporta did not succeed in concluding the deal.
According to the Spanish player’s statements to the Catalan newspaper “Sport”, which revealed that Nico Williams refused to move to Barcelona for fear of the financial crisis that is currently hitting the team, and the difficulties facing Joan Laporta.
The newspaper added that Nico Williams also refused to move to Barcelona, for fear of waiting for the process of registering him in the team’s roster, especially since the club is suffering from crises at the level of financial fair play laws.
Nico Williams stated that he agreed to move to Barça and informed Barcelona’s sporting director of this, but he set a single condition for signing the contracts, which is to grant him a guarantee to register him in the team’s roster, which Laporta and Demo could not guarantee to the player, and accordingly he decided to refuse to sign and stay with Athletic Bilbao this season.
The newspaper added that Barcelona’s summer transfer window ended with the signing of the duo Pau Victor from Girona, in addition to Dani Olmo from Leipzig, Germany, for 60 million euros.
