Paris Saint-Germain are closely monitoring the situation of several Barcelona stars, with the aim of repeating previous successes such as the transfers of Neymar Jr., Lionel Messi, Xavi Simons and Ousmane Dembele.
Nasser Al-Khelaifi is slowly planning a new move against Joan Laporta, and has surveyed several players who are interesting to Luis Enrique, such as Pedri Gonzalez, Ronald Araujo, Pablo Baez “Gavi”, Jules Kounde and Alejandro Balde.
According to information from El Nacional, Frenkie de Jong has become the star of the current show, as signing the Dutch player is a major obsession for officials in Paris.
The newspaper added: Paris Saint-Germain has been in contact with his representatives for some time to convince him to move to the French League and leave the Camp Nou, where De Jong is considered one of Barcelona’s leaders.
De Jong, who was absent from the European Championship due to ankle problems that kept him out for a large part of last season, is likely to be delayed by a few more months, and he may need surgery.
However, PSG are willing to wait to sign De Jong during the next transfer window. They have signed Joao Neves and Desiree Doue to bolster their midfield, and they also have Vitinha and Warren Zaire-Emery in their ranks, while De Jong is a great boost to the quality of the team. Al-Khelaifi does not want to pay huge sums and has a plan to sign the Dutch player.
PSG have contacted De Jong to convince him not to renew his contract with Barcelona, which expires in 2026. If the contract is not renewed, De Jong can move without cost, giving PSG the opportunity to sign him for a very reasonable sum next summer.
