Joan Laporta seeks to regain the confidence of the club members in order to maintain his position as president of Barcelona in the upcoming club elections.
Laporta knows that what attracts members and fans the most are the high-profile deals, so he seeks to obtain the signature of one of the most important stars in Europe in order to regain the confidence of the members and retain his position as president of Barcelona.
According to information from the Spanish newspaper El Nacional, Florian Wirtz is planning to move to Spain next season, as the German midfielder intends to leave Bayer Leverkusen in 2025, and is particularly focused on joining the Spanish League, aiming to wear the Barcelona or Real Madrid shirt.
However, Barcelona’s financial situation may represent an obstacle to securing Wirtz’s signature, the player has always been a declared fan of the Catalan club, and he did not hesitate to express this. In a recent interview with “DAZN”, his statement about the “greatest talent” currently available, Lamine Yamal, sparked some negative reactions from Florentino Perez.
Wirtz is under contract with Leverkusen until 2027, but has an “agreed” option to leave in 2025, provided that a club interested in paying €130m comes forward to release him. Laporta is aware of this and has the support of Hansi Flick, who would be happy to coach the player.
Despite the challenges, Laporta has already started talks with those close to Wirtz, who have expressed their agreement to negotiate. Wirtz is known to be a Barcelona fan, and his dream is to play for the blue and red team.
Wirtz’s statements are not new; in 2017 he expressed his love for Barcelona, saying: “My dream when I was young was to play for Barcelona and that hasn’t changed. The good thing is that I still have a lot of time.”
Laporta aims to raise the €130m Leverkusen are demanding for Wirtz, and will seek to convince the player to move, taking advantage of his loyalty to Barcelona and his good relationship with Hansi Flick.
