According to information from the Spanish newspaper El Nacional, young player Nico Gonzalez, who currently plays for Porto, is performing exceptionally well this season, making him an option for a return.
Nico Gonzalez is one of the most prominent talents produced by the La Masia academy, and despite high expectations, he has not been able to establish himself in the Barcelona first team, which forced him to move away from Camp Nou.
After being loaned to Valencia, the midfielder moved to Porto in 2023 for €8.5 million, with Barcelona retaining 40% of any future sale, plus a €30 million buy-back option until the summer of 2025.
Nico’s career with Porto has undergone a radical transformation this season, with coach Vitor Bruno able to exploit his potential fully. Despite not getting along with Sergio Conceição last season, Nico has now become a key member of the team.
He has featured in all nine official matches for Porto this season, scoring three goals and providing one assist, playing in a more advanced position, which has brought him closer to the opposition area.
Barcelona is closely monitoring Nico’s development, and it is no secret that Deco greatly values his potential.
Current Barça coach Hansi Flick is expected to be pleased to have a midfielder of such calibre, as he could form an exciting partnership with Gavi in the middle of the park, enhancing the quality and versatility of the midfield.
