The Spanish club Barcelona is intervening to snatch an expected deal from the grasp of its traditional rival, Real Madrid, in the upcoming summer transfer window, according to reports from the Spanish newspaper Mundo Deportivo.
Barcelona is preparing to face Real Madrid in the eleventh round of La Liga following their match against Sevilla, which is scheduled to take place next Sunday at Montjuïc Stadium in Catalonia.
The newspaper, which is closely connected to Barcelona, stated in its main headline for the new issue released on Thursday morning that there is a strong desire within the Catalan club to sign Canadian defender Alphonso Davies.
Real Madrid is keeping an eye on Davies, whose contract with Bayern Munich expires next summer, with the aim of signing him for free at the end of the season.
The newspaper noted that Hansi Flick is one of the biggest supporters of bringing the Canadian player on board, especially since Davies performed at his best when Flick was the coach of Bayern Munich.
Additionally, the report highlighted that Barcelona is monitoring the situation of players whose contracts expire at the end of the season, looking to secure free deals in light of the poor financial situation of Joan Laporta’s administration, with Davies’ name appearing on their list.
Davies was featured prominently on the cover alongside Jonathan Tah, a player for Bayer Leverkusen, whose contract with the German club also expires next June.
Barcelona’s task of convincing Davies to overlook Real Madrid will not be easy, especially considering the Merengues’ long-standing interest in the 23-year-old player.
