Key Absences Hit Barcelona as Christensen Joins the Injury List
Barcelona have entered the international break with developments that were not entirely expected, but the biggest concern is not only the names on the injury list. The real issue is how long the team may have to wait before getting some of its key players back.
The concern has become clearer following the latest injury updates, particularly with Barcelona facing a demanding schedule once the international break ends. Hansi Flick could therefore find himself with limited options in several positions.
The latest reports confirm that Andreas Christensen has suffered a left thigh strain, with initial estimates suggesting that the Danish defender could be sidelined for anywhere between four weeks and two months.
Based on that timeframe, Christensen could miss Barcelona’s match against Getafe on October 10, their Champions League clash with Galatasaray on October 13, and the La Liga meeting with Real Betis on October 17. His availability for the Champions League showdown with Paris Saint-Germain on October 20 is also uncertain.
As for Frenkie de Jong, his return remains some distance away. The current timeline points toward a possible comeback in late November as he continues to recover from a medial ligament tear in his knee.
The situation is further complicated by the continued absence of Roony Bardghji, who is recovering from a cruciate ligament tear. Current expectations suggest that he could miss most of the season, with a potential return only during the final month if his recovery progresses as hoped.
There is, however, more positive news regarding goalkeeper Joan Garcia. He is dealing with a knee issue, but the injury is not considered serious and he is expected to be available for Barcelona’s next match.
Barcelona therefore head into the next phase of the season waiting for several important players to return. Christensen’s latest injury could keep him out of a number of significant fixtures, while De Jong and Bardghji face considerably longer spells on the sidelines.
