Real Madrid compete with Arsenal, Liverpool and Chelsea for promising Spanish defender

The name of the young Spanish defender is no longer flying under the radar in the transfer market. His recent performances have attracted growing attention, with several major European clubs closely monitoring his development. Even more significantly, Real Madrid have now emerged alongside three Premier League giants in an early battle for one of Spain’s promising defensive talents.

There are no formal negotiations at this stage, but the situation could develop over the coming months, particularly with the January transfer window approaching. The player has already established himself as an important part of his club’s defence, while his strong start to the 2026/27 season has helped generate widespread interest.

According to The Hard Tackle, citing a report from Fussball News, Real Madrid, Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool are all monitoring Real Sociedad centre-back Jon Martin, who is regarded as one of Spain’s most promising young defenders.

Martin has established himself in Real Sociedad’s defence and has started six matches across competitions this season, delivering a series of impressive performances that have attracted the attention of several interested clubs.

The Spanish defender stands 1.87 metres tall and is comfortable in possession, capable of playing through pressure and possessing the passing range required to break opposition lines from deep. Those qualities have made his profile particularly attractive to clubs looking for a long-term defensive solution.

Arsenal and Chelsea are understood to appreciate his tactical flexibility and his ability to contribute during the build-up, while Liverpool view him as a potential long-term addition to their central defensive options.

Liverpool’s interest comes as the club continues to plan for the next generation of its backline, particularly with Virgil van Dijk entering the latter stages of his career. Ronald Araujo has also arrived on loan from Barcelona as a replacement for Ibrahima Konate, although a permanent deal remains dependent on several factors.

Chelsea, meanwhile, continue to focus heavily on young players with significant development potential, and Martin’s age, technical qualities and progression appear to fit that recruitment strategy.

Real Madrid are also keeping a close eye on the Spanish defender. Los Blancos have increasingly focused on signing young players with the potential to develop into key first-team figures. Their defensive situation could also create a need for additional depth, particularly with uncertainty surrounding Antonio Rudiger’s long-term future and Eder Militao’s injury problems.

Arsenal already have a strong group of defenders after strengthening their squad with the signing of Ezri Konsa during the summer. As a result, Martin could represent more of a long-term investment for the Gunners than an immediate necessity.

Despite the growing interest, there are currently no formal negotiations between the interested clubs and Real Sociedad. Exploratory discussions with the player’s representatives could take place in the coming period, however, as clubs assess the possibility of making a future move.

Real Sociedad are in a strong negotiating position, with Martin under contract until June 2032 and the Basque club having no intention of actively selling him. According to the report, Sociedad would only consider negotiations for an offer of around €50 million or more, while they are also seeking performance-related bonuses and a sell-on percentage as part of any potential agreement.

That could make an early deal difficult for the four interested clubs, particularly with Real Sociedad not actively planning for Martin’s departure during the January transfer window. For now, the young defender continues to attract attention from some of Europe’s biggest clubs after his impressive start to the season.
