Koundé Overtakes Abidal as the Frenchman With the Most Appearances in Barcelona History and Celebrates With a Goal vs Getafe
It was no ordinary night at the Spotify Camp Nou. While the fans celebrated another win that brings the team closer to a club record, one Barcelona star was quietly writing a new line in the club’s history.
A record that had stood for years in the name of one of the heroes of Guardiola’s golden generation finally fell, and the man who broke it did not stop there, celebrating in his own way with a second-half goal.
The player is French defender Jules Koundé, who made his 194th appearance in a Barcelona shirt against Getafe on Saturday, overtaking his compatriot Éric Abidal to become the French player with the most appearances in the club’s history.
The milestone did not pass quietly, as Koundé scored Barcelona’s third goal in the 73rd minute from a Lamine Yamal cross to complete a 3-0 win over Getafe.
According to Barcelona’s official website, Koundé’s 194 games are split into 131 in LaLiga, 35 in the Champions League, 18 in the Copa del Rey, 8 in the Spanish Super Cup and 2 in the Europa League, with 10 goals and 22 assists along the way.
The 27-year-old joined Barcelona from Sevilla in the summer of 2022 and is now in his fifth season at the club, having played both at right-back and at centre-back.
His extra-time goal against Real Madrid in the 2024/25 Copa del Rey final, which won the trophy, remains the standout moment of his time in Blaugrana.
Koundé has won seven trophies with Barcelona: three LaLiga titles (2022/23, 2024/25 and 2025/26), three Spanish Super Cups in the same seasons, and the 2024/25 Copa del Rey.
The match also saw Anthony Gordon score his first Barça goal in the second minute, before Gabriel Jesus added the second on his first start, while Gerard Martín celebrated his 100th appearance for the club.
The win was Barcelona’s eighth in a row in the league, equalling the club record for consecutive wins at the start of a LaLiga season, set in 2013/14 under Tata Martino, and it came without Raphinha, who missed out with a minor thigh problem.
Barcelona now travel to Turkey to face Galatasaray in the Champions League on Tuesday.
