LaLiga chief refuses to apologise to Real Madrid.. and fires a sarcastic jab at Mourinho
The war between Real Madrid and the head of LaLiga has flared up again, after Javier Tebas refused to apologise for his controversial remarks and fired a sarcastic jab that also targeted Jose Mourinho.
The row is no longer just a media spat. It has reached Spain’s Higher Sports Council, while Real Madrid are demanding that Tebas step down.
Tebas had compared Real Madrid TV’s communication methods with those of Joseph Goebbels, Nazi Germany’s propaganda minister, sparking widespread anger. Higher Sports Council president Jose Manuel Rodriguez Uribes called the remarks unacceptable and said Tebas should apologise to the club.
According to Madrid Universal, Tebas responded with a lengthy post on X defending the comparison, insisting his criticism concerned propaganda techniques rather than Nazi ideology or Real Madrid supporters, and listing journalists and politicians who had previously referenced Goebbels when discussing communication strategies.
He also questioned Uribes’ independence, writing: “What a coincidence that Mourinho and you bring up the apology, isn’t it? It must be ‘superior’ telepathy.”
Real Madrid have called for Tebas to step down from his LaLiga role and his vice-presidency of the Spanish FA, describing the remarks as deeply offensive and morally repugnant, while the Council’s legal department is examining whether they could lead to disciplinary action.
