Flick Explains Why Gavi Continues to Miss Out at Barcelona After the Alavés Win
Gavi’s continued absence from Barcelona’s matches has raised questions after the Spanish midfielder once again found himself out of Hansi Flick’s plans, despite the team’s emphatic 6-1 victory over Deportivo Alavés in La Liga.
Gavi was not given a single minute in the latest match, raising further questions about his role within the squad. This comes despite Barcelona’s busy schedule and ongoing injury problems, prompting Flick to explain his decision after the game.

The German coach was asked about Gavi’s lack of involvement and explained that the substitution plans prepared before kick-off can change as a match develops. Circumstances on the pitch sometimes force the coaching staff to make different decisions.
Flick said: “We have to keep making changes and sometimes the situation isn’t the same as before the match. We had Rodri, Frenkie, Fermín… There were several changes to be made.”
Flick’s comments come at a time when Gavi is facing strong competition for places in Barcelona’s midfield. Several players have been receiving regular opportunities, making it increasingly difficult for him to secure playing time in recent weeks.
Gavi’s appearances have been limited at the start of the season, and he has also gone without playing in the last two matches, according to Spanish reports. This has reignited debate over whether he can regain his place in Barcelona’s starting line-up.

Nevertheless, Flick did not announce any disagreement with the midfielder or confirm that he had been dropped from his plans. Instead, he focused on explaining his tactical decisions against Alavés. Gavi’s chances of earning more minutes will depend on his work in training and the choices Flick makes for the upcoming matches.
