Barcelona is facing significant challenges in retaining one of their key players for next season, as interest from several major European clubs continues to rise.
With his contract nearing its end, the future of the player at Camp Nou appears uncertain, especially since no agreement has been reached regarding a renewal yet. Meanwhile, the pressure from clubs interested in signing him is increasing, putting Barcelona in a difficult position.
According to information from the Italian newspaper “La Gazzetta dello Sport”, Uruguayan defender Ronald Araujo has agreed to move to Juventus during the winter transfer window.
Araujo had made an unusual statement after returning to play for Barcelona in a cup match following his injury recovery, hinting at the possibility of his departure.
The newspaper reports that Juventus has been targeting Araujo for some time to strengthen their defense, and the club has successfully reached a verbal agreement with the player, now waiting for Barcelona’s approval.
Additionally, Araujo holds a Spanish passport, making him eligible to move to Juventus, as the Italian club does not have additional spots available for non-EU players this season.
La Gazzetta dello Sport added that negotiations between the two clubs are ongoing, and Juventus’ management, led by Cristiano Giuntoli, hopes to convince Barcelona to loan the player this month, which would be Juventus’ first winter deal.
If Araujo decides to leave on a free transfer, interested clubs could offer him a bonus of €15 million, in addition to a salary much higher than what he currently earns at Barcelona.
