Barcelona’s first football team was eliminated from the Champions League in the semi-finals after losing to Inter Milan 7-6 on aggregate. The team is now facing a major injury blow ahead of Sunday’s La Liga match against Real Madrid.
The Catalan side hopes to heal its wounds after the harsh European exit with a victory in El Clásico, moving closer to officially securing the La Liga title.
According to the Spanish newspaper Marca, Barcelona duo Iñigo Martínez and Eric García suffered injuries during the team’s match against Inter Milan in the Champions League, which led coach Hansi Flick to substitute them.
This comes in addition to the absences of Balde and Koundé from the squad due to injury, further raising concerns for the coaching staff about their defensive options.
The duo are expected to undergo medical tests in the coming hours to determine the severity of their injuries and the length of their absence. Barcelona now has six injured players ahead of the Real Madrid match: Jules Koundé, Alejandro Balde, Marc Casado, Marc Bernal, Iñigo Martínez, and Eric García.
