It appears that the coming days at Barcelona will witness major changes within the dressing room, as the technical management prepares to make crucial decisions that could reshape the team before the start of the new season.
Sources close to the technical staff have revealed that new German coach Hansi Flick has already begun implementing a comprehensive restructuring plan for the team, aimed at raising performance levels and developing a cohesive group capable of regaining dominance both domestically and in Europe.
As part of this plan, initial indications suggest that one of the midfielders is close to leaving Camp Nou, following a thorough technical evaluation which concluded that the player’s continued presence in the squad would be neither technically nor financially beneficial in the upcoming period.
Renowned Spanish journalist Lobo Carrasco revealed that Hansi Flick will hold a private meeting with midfielder Oriol Romeu within the next few days to inform him that he is permanently out of his plans, and has requested that he look for a new club during the current summer transfer window.
This decision comes after just one season for Romeu, who joined Barcelona from Girona in a deal that raised many questions within the new management, as the player failed to prove himself or convince the technical staff, despite his extensive experience.
Reports indicate that Flick expressed his astonishment at the insistence of the previous management—represented by Laporta and Deco—on signing Romeu for €5 million, even going so far as to describe the deal as “incomprehensible,” saying:
“I don’t see any technical or investment justification for signing a player of these qualities at this age.”
The German coach believes that continuing to support deals that do not align with the requirements of modern football will hinder the team’s rebuilding project, which focuses on quality, as well as physical and mental readiness.
