Former U.S. President Donald Trump has expressed his gratitude toward Barcelona and Spain forward Ferran Torres, praising what he described as a “nice gesture” during the player’s World Cup victory celebrations.
Torres, 26, has dominated international sports headlines over the past week after etching his name into footballing history. Coming off the bench in the 2026 World Cup final against Argentina, the former Manchester City forward scored the dramatic extra-time winner to hand Spain the trophy.

However, the spotlight followed him well beyond the final whistle. During Spain’s victory parade in Madrid, Torres caught the eye of fans and media alike by wearing a cap emblazoned with the slogan: “Make Spain Great Again.”
While most observers viewed the hat as a lighthearted play on Trump’s famous political slogan, the 80-year-old took the gesture at face value.
Speaking to reporters over the weekend, Trump shared his thoughts on the moment:
“He’s a great player. He had the hat on, ‘Make America Great Again.’ It was a very nice gesture, and I think he did it with great intentions. We really appreciate it.”
