At a critical time, just days before the start of the preparatory tour of Asia, Barcelona’s technical staff suffered a major blow that disrupted the plans of German coach Hansi Flick. This came after one of the team’s most promising players suffered a serious injury, temporarily sidelining him from the senior squad.

The injury occurred as the new coach began developing his technical vision for the upcoming season, monitoring a group of young talents. However, an unexpected medical setback halted the progress of one of the players he had recently been observing.

Barcelona announced on Saturday that young player Ibrahima Diarra, a member of Barcelona Atlético, had suffered a tear in the rectus femoris muscle in his right leg, meaning he will definitely miss the Asian tour, which includes Japan and South Korea.

The club’s official statement indicated that the player will undergo a treatment program, and his condition will be evaluated later to determine a date for his return to the field. Diarra will not accompany the first team on its Asian tour, amid uncertainty surrounding his immediate future—whether he will return to the first team or rejoin Barcelona Atlético under Juliano Belletti.

The young Malian player attracted attention after his brilliance at the Under-17 World Cup and joined Barcelona earlier this year as part of the club’s plan to strengthen its talent academy. Coach Flick had personally monitored him during training, but the injury has thwarted his anticipated debut with the senior team this summer.

While Barcelona has not officially announced the length of his absence, fans remain hopeful that he will quickly return to form, amid constant praise for his talent within La Masia.
