A message from his hospital bed.. Chelsea keeper reassures fans and reveals when he will be back

Hours after the frightening scenes that shocked Premier League fans, Chelsea’s goalkeeper sent a message from his hospital bed to reassure supporters and reveal what happened after he was carried off on a stretcher.

The message contained important news about the surgery he underwent and an approximate timeline for his return.

According to ESPN, Argentine keeper Emi Martinez, 34, had surgery after suffering a head injury in Chelsea’s 2-0 win over Everton, when he collided with defender Jarrad Branthwaite while rushing out to punch a free kick in the 67th minute.

Martinez posted a photo of himself in a hospital bed with the caption: “Thank you all for the messages, the operation went well. The most important thing is that we won and with a bow at 0. We’ll be back in a few weeks.”

The keeper received extended treatment on the pitch before being stretchered off while receiving oxygen, and was replaced by 21-year-old Mike Penders in the 75th minute, with 11 minutes of stoppage time added.

Chelsea coach Xabi Alonso said: “It was a concussion, but more than that. I saw just one clip, but we’ll have to wait,” while two-goal hero Pedro Neto dedicated the win to the goalkeeper: “This win is for him.”
