According to information from the Spanish newspaper El Nacional, one of Deco’s personal bets this summer was to keep Eric Garcia.
He was convinced that Garcia could be a valuable addition to the Barcelona squad, especially after his exceptional performance during his loan at Girona, where he played a crucial role in leading the team to finish the season in third place in the Spanish league, which guaranteed qualification for the Champions League for the first time in the club’s history.
However, Hansi Flick’s plan was to sell the Spanish player, which would provide a significant financial return for the club and free up a spot in the starting lineup.
The situation became complicated due to serious injuries to Ronald Araujo and Andreas Christensen, along with the departures of Mikael Faye to Stade Rennais and Clement Lenglet to Atletico Madrid, leaving Barcelona without sufficient alternatives in defense.
Despite this, Flick did not change his stance and continued to recommend selling the player.
However, the Portuguese sporting director did not accept any of the offers made for Garcia, clearly aiming to gain the trust of the German manager and give the player a chance to prove himself at Camp Nou, following the criticism he faced during his first stint under coaches Ronald Koeman and Xavi Hernandez.
Unfortunately, Eric was unable to convince the Barcelona fans. Although he played in a position he was not accustomed to, as he was utilized as a midfielder, he struggled in the few matches he participated in.

Against Villarreal and Getafe, his performance improved slightly, but he faced heavy criticism again in the match against Osasuna due to the team’s poor showing.
The newspaper concluded that Flick is fed up with Eric’s performance and believes that Barcelona’s best option is to place him on the transfer list. Therefore, he has urged Joan Laporta not to hesitate to accept any offers for the player during the winter transfer window.
