Valdebebas Surprise: Sergio Ramos Suddenly Turns Up at Castilla’s Derby Just Steps From Mourinho

Nobody in the stands at the Alfredo Di Stefano stadium expected what happened midway through the first half. A group of children suddenly started shouting and pointing behind them, and when the crowd turned around they discovered a Real Madrid legend sitting among them, completely unannounced.

The surprise visit came on a night when coach Jose Mourinho was also in the stands, just a few steps away from the unexpected guest, and nobody yet knows the real reason he turned up at a game he does not usually attend.

The guest in question is Sergio Ramos. The former Real Madrid captain made a surprise appearance at Valdebebas to watch the reserve-team derby in Spain’s Primera Federacion between Real Madrid Castilla and Atletico Madrileno, who are coached by Fernando Torres, according to Spanish outlet OKDiario.

Ramos was spotted in one of the stadium booths, very close to the box where Mourinho and his coaching staff sat, watching the progress of the reserve players closely, Mundo Deportivo reports.

For a few minutes Ramos became the main attraction of the night. Fans took advantage of a stoppage while an Atletico player received treatment to turn towards the Spanish defender, who did not hesitate to wave to the supporters who had noticed him.

The Spanish outlet noted that the reason for Ramos’ presence at Valdebebas remains unknown, stressing that he is not usually seen at Castilla games. But he was there, watching Real Madrid’s academy and his friend Fernando Torres, to the delight of the fans.

Ramos was not the only famous face in the stands. The derby, watched by 2,574 spectators, was also attended by Mourinho and David Villa, according to Conexion Deportiva.

On the pitch, Real Madrid Castilla claimed a thrilling 3-2 win over Atletico Madrileno in a game with two penalties, five goals and drama right up to the 100th minute.

Angel Carvajal opened the scoring for Castilla in the ninth minute, before Antal Yaakobishvili equalised for Atletico in first-half stoppage time when his shot deflected off Mario Rivas and changed direction.

In the second half, Diego Aguado converted a penalty in the 61st minute, Koke Mota levelled for Torres’ side by following up after goalkeeper Mestre saved a spot kick, and Dani Yanez then won it for Castilla with a superb left-footed strike in the 71st minute.

The referee added ten minutes, and Atletico almost snatched a late equaliser, but Alvaro Vega’s effort hit the woodwork, allowing Castilla to celebrate a precious win in front of Mourinho and Ramos.
