After the postponement of the La Liga match between Barcelona and Osasuna, which was originally scheduled to be played at Montjuïc Stadium a few days ago, it became necessary to reschedule it. After several days of delays in deciding Barcelona’s Champions League fate, the Professional Competitions Committee decided to reschedule the match for Thursday, March 27.
The match will take place on Thursday of next week, immediately after the international fixtures. However, South American internationals Rafinha and Ronald Araujo are likely to miss the match due to their participation in Argentina and Bolivia’s matches the previous day. This decision is detrimental to Barcelona, as two key players will be absent from the match, putting the team in a difficult position.
It appears that La Liga and the Spanish Football Federation did not take into account Barcelona’s needs and the absence of some of its key players when setting the new date. This decision is difficult to understand, especially since the match could have been played between rounds 37 and 38 in May, on the 20th or 21st, dates that are free from the international break, thus making it a better fit in the fixture schedule. Unfortunately, this was not the decision made.
According to information from the Spanish newspaper ‘‘El Nacional‘‘, Barcelona expressed its dissatisfaction with this decision, which they were informed about last Sunday, even before the official announcement. While the congested fixture schedule may not offer many options, the club believes that another date could have been set. Clearly, the opinions of the clubs, who ultimately manage the competitive aspects, were not sufficiently considered.
However, Barcelona has the right to appeal this decision to the Second Division Court. The decision is expected to be announced very soon, as the match approaches, and the club will also have to take the necessary measures to organize its training sessions if March 27 is set as the final date for the match against Osasuna.
