Barcelona is preparing for a busy summer transfer window, as the Catalan club outlines its list of departures to secure the necessary funds for a major summer deal.
According to Spanish press reports, most notably the Catalan newspaper ‘‘Sport‘‘, Barcelona needs €75 million to complete a deal to sign Liverpool striker Luis Díaz. The club’s sporting director, Deco, considers him the ideal option to strengthen the left-wing position, given the need for a fast and skillful player capable of providing offensive reinforcements.
The newspaper indicated that the club plans to sell several players to finance the deal, including Andreas Christensen, Alex Valdés, and Eric Garcia, in addition to attempting to offload Ansu Fati, who refused to leave last winter.
Although Díaz hasn’t scored many goals this season with Liverpool, Barcelona sees him as a long-term solution to compensate for the shortage on the left flank, especially after Ansu Fati’s significant decline in form and the inconsistency of the wingers.
One of the biggest challenges facing Barcelona in completing the deal is the need to save €30 million on wages, in accordance with the financial restrictions imposed on the club by La Liga. Barcelona is required to reduce expenses and generate revenue by selling some non-essential players. The club is aware that securing Díaz will not be easy, especially given Liverpool’s desire to keep him. However, Barcelona is counting on the player himself to express his desire to leave, in addition to the possibility of including players in the deal to reduce the final value.
