Following Barcelona’s thrilling victory over Girona, which cemented their lead in the league and moved them three points clear of second-placed Real Madrid and seven points clear of their neighbors Atlético Madrid, Barcelona is now preparing for a crucial match against Atlético Madrid in the second leg of the Copa del Rey semi-finals tomorrow, Wednesday, at the Metropolitano Stadium in Madrid.
According to reports from the Spanish newspaper ‘‘El Nacional‘‘, Ansu Fati’s situation at Barcelona has reached a critical stage. The young winger, once considered one of La Masia’s most promising talents and the heir to Lionel Messi’s No. 10 jersey, has completely disappeared from coach Hansi Flick’s plans. Despite his commitment and tireless efforts in training to regain his form, the German coach still does not count on him, which has turned his situation with the team from complicated to unsustainable.
Recently, Fati’s entourage contacted Barcelona president Joan Laporta to express their growing concern about the player’s situation. Ansu Fati’s father, Bori Fati, spoke with the club’s management to express his frustration with the lack of opportunities his son is receiving. Despite fully adhering to Flick’s instructions and increasing his training efforts, Fati is not receiving any playing time.
Flick has always been honest with Fati, emphasizing that if he wants to return to the starting lineup, he must increase the intensity of his training. Fati accepted this challenge and began to prove himself worthy of being a key part of the team. However, these efforts have not materialized. This season, Fati has played only 187 minutes in eight matches, without scoring or assisting. He remains a player almost entirely excluded from the squad, clearly demonstrating that he is not part of the coach’s plans.
This situation has frustrated the player and his family, who feel that their efforts will not be enough to gain a real opportunity with the coach. Therefore, they have decided to request a meeting with the board to find a solution to this impasse.
Now, Barcelona finds itself at a crossroads. Laporta and Deco are aware that Fati’s departure could be a good financial solution, as it would relieve a significant portion of his salary and potentially generate income from his sale. However, the player is still under contract until 2027 and is unwilling to leave without making a final effort to fight for his future with the club.
With the summer transfer window approaching, it appears that Fati will have to make a final decision in the coming weeks. If Flick continues to ignore him, his departure from Barcelona seems inevitable.
