Araujo is not the only one responsible for the elimination… another player is at risk of being kicked out of Barcelona after the Inter disaster!

A deep sense of disappointment swept through the Barcelona dressing room following the team’s Champions League semi-final exit at the hands of Inter Milan. The defeat has sparked serious internal reflection within the club, particularly concerning the future of several players most notably, though not exclusively, Ronald Araujo.

Despite the team’s considerable effort against Inter, who seemed to have fortune on their side, the result ignited a wave of internal criticism that has now begun to translate into concrete decisions.

According to reports from the Spanish newspaper El Nacional, doubts have also been cast over veteran Polish goalkeeper Wojciech Szczęsny, whose European journey with Barcelona now appears to be drawing to a close.

Szczęsny was signed during the winter transfer window as an emergency solution following Marc-André ter Stegen’s long-term injury. At the time, sporting director Deco considered the former Juventus shot-stopper the perfect fit due to his experience and immediate availability. His initial performances in La Liga justified the decision delivering clean sheets and adding a sense of calm and stability during a period of great uncertainty.

His strong displays even brought Barcelona close to extending his contract by an additional season, either as backup to Ter Stegen or as direct competition. However, the second leg against Inter changed everything. Szczęsny conceded seven goals across both matches three at Montjuïc and four at San Siro, including two in extra time.

While not all the goals were the result of direct errors, his reactions in key moments, particularly at the end of the match, have raised concerns among the coaching staff about his ability to perform at the highest level. These concerns have now reached the club’s hierarchy, where several members of the sporting department are questioning whether renewing his contract is a rational choice, especially given the presence of potentially more reliable alternatives in the market.

Deco is already exploring other options. Among them is young Espanyol goalkeeper Juan García, who is viewed as a promising long-term prospect. Positive scouting reports on goalkeepers from other leagues further support the idea that Szczęsny could be allowed to leave in the summer.

Unless there is a sudden change in circumstances, Szczęsny is expected to part ways with Barcelona at the end of the season. His brief stint at the club was appreciated, even if its conclusion has taken an unexpected turn.

With a transformative summer looming at Camp Nou, the loss to Inter may prove to be a defining moment — one that forces bold decisions. The goalkeeping position appears to be on the verge of restructuring, with Szczęsny likely to be one of the most affected, alongside other names such as Ronald Araujo.
