Hansi Flick has offered a frank assessment of Karim Adeyemi’s first outing in a Barcelona shirt, acknowledging that the summer signing fell short of expectations during the club’s pre-season friendly against Birmingham City.
The 24-year-old winger completed his move to the Spotify Camp Nou last week after Barcelona struck a reduced-fee agreement with Borussia Dortmund ahead of his contract expiry next year. Following several sessions with his new teammates, Adeyemi was handed a starting spot at St. Andrew’s to make his official bow for the club.

However, the German international struggled to find his rhythm within Flick’s tactical framework, turning in a subdued performance before being withdrawn.
Speaking after the match, Flick was direct about his countryman’s debut while maintaining context around his integration into the squad.
“Karim, some things he did were not very good,” Flick admitted. “I think he has more potential to show, but he is still in his first week of training, so that is normal.”
The Barcelona head coach emphasized that he has already seen glimpses of Adeyemi’s true quality away from the matchday spotlight.
“I’ve seen a better Karim in training with his speed and finishing,” Flick added. “He has a lot of potential and can offer us a great deal.”
