Real Madrid secured a thrilling 2-1 victory over visiting Real Mallorca in the 36th round of the 2024–25 La Liga season this evening at the Santiago Bernabéu.

The visitors opened the scoring early through Martin Valjent in the 10th minute, capping off a balanced and competitive first half.

In the second half, French star Kylian Mbappé leveled the score for Real Madrid in the 68th minute. Then, deep into stoppage time, Jacobo Ramón netted the dramatic winner in the 95th minute, securing three vital points in the race for the title.

Meanwhile, according to reports from Spanish outlet Defensa Central, Ferland Mendy’s status within the squad has dramatically shifted. Once a favorite under Carlo Ancelotti, Mendy is now considered expendable by incoming coach Xabi Alonso. The club has reportedly made it clear that they would be willing to sell the French left-back for an offer in the range of €20–25 million—provided the player is open to the move. Alonso is said to be fully aligned with this stance and is currently prioritizing the signing of Álvaro Carreras as a replacement.

Mendy has missed 15 matches this season due to injury, spending a total of 83 days on the sidelines. Even when available, his performances have not matched those of the current first-choice left-back, sparking growing concerns within the club. Although there had already been internal debate about renewing his contract, Real Madrid ultimately opted to retain him—at least for the time being.

Now, with his form in decline and his 30th birthday approaching in June, the prospect of selling Mendy appears increasingly reasonable. However, attracting a substantial offer may prove difficult given his injury history and advancing age.

While the summer transfer window has yet to officially open—and anything can happen in football—Mendy’s future remains uncertain. Saudi Arabian clubs continue to scout high-profile players from Europe, which keeps the door open to multiple scenarios.

For now, Mendy has shown no inclination to leave. He is reportedly comfortable in Madrid and determined to reclaim his spot in the starting XI. However, he’s also well aware that the potential arrival of Álvaro Carreras, who is expected to be a major investment for the club, could make that goal significantly harder to achieve.
