Barcelona has been able to raise significant sums thanks to the team’s impressive performances, but its failure to qualify for the Champions League final resulted in a significant loss of revenue. However, Joan Laporta and Deco still need to raise more funds by selling players who are no longer in the starting lineup or whose contracts are nearing their end.
According to information from the Spanish newspaper El Nacional, although the main focus is on Ansu Fati and Ronald Araújo — who are not included in Hansi Flick’s plans — as well as Andreas Christensen and Frenkie de Jong, whose contracts expire in 2026, other players should not be overlooked. There is also much speculation about the possible departures of Fermín López and Pablo Páez “Gavi,” who have failed to reach the stature they aspired to and have been relegated to secondary roles within the team.
The most prominent of these cases is the situation of Gavi, who was recently one of the main pillars of the Camp Nou project and a fan favorite. He was a key player in Xavi Hernández’s squad, but his career took a turn after the serious knee injury he suffered a year and a half ago, from which he is still recovering. Given that the player is still far from his best, the injury has raised many questions about his future.
It is impossible for Gavi to be a regular starter at the moment, which has prompted speculation that he could leave Barcelona if a lucrative offer is received. He had hoped to establish himself in the starting lineup and believes he has performed well enough to become a permanent part of the team — especially when he has come on as a substitute and made a clear impact.
As for Fermín López, he reportedly feels it is unfair that Dani Olmo is being given priority over him in the starting lineup. It is becoming increasingly clear that either Gavi or Fermín will leave in the next transfer window. However, Flick has no doubts about who he would prefer to keep in the team.
Flick is more inclined to keep Gavi, as they have a strong relationship and have been photographed together on several occasions. On the other hand, Flick appears to be more distant from Fermín.
Furthermore, Flick remains convinced that the former No. 6 can return to being among the world’s best players once he regains full fitness.
