After a strong run in the Champions League this season, Barcelona’s dream ended in the semi-finals at the hands of Inter Milan. However, that didn’t dampen the ambition within the Catalan club.
The management and coach Hansi Flick have already begun planning to return the team to the continental title podium next season, amid widespread fan support and optimism about the return of European prestige.
However, before the dream journey could begin again, Barcelona received an unexpected shock from the European football authorities, which could derail all plans and disrupt the entire project.
Press reports revealed that UEFA has decided to penalize the Spanish club for the upcoming 2025–26 season.
The penalty will be applied during Barcelona’s participation in the Champions League, after having qualified for the competition as La Liga champions last season.
The English newspaper The Times reported that Barcelona will be punished for breaching financial regulations for the second consecutive year.
The penalties may include reducing the number of registered players for the next edition of the tournament or deducting points from the club’s total. On the other hand, Radio Catalunya revealed that UEFA will sanction Barcelona due to irregularities in the club’s income records.
Barcelona reached the Champions League semi-finals last season and came close to reaching the final, falling short only by a 7–6 aggregate defeat to Inter Milan.
