Barcelona is preparing for a new season that will bring numerous technical and administrative changes, with German coach Hansi Flick continuing at the helm of the Catalan team. It is clear that the club’s management is moving toward a comprehensive restructuring of the starting lineup, particularly in some sensitive positions that caused internal issues last season.

In the same context, one of Barcelona’s players is set to leave the team this summer before his contract expires in June 2026.

Spanish goalkeeper Iñaki Peña wants to leave the club and will request a transfer after losing his place in the starting lineup to Polish goalkeeper Wojciech Szczęsny.

Peña became Barcelona’s first-choice goalkeeper after German keeper Marc-André ter Stegen suffered a cruciate ligament injury. However, his situation changed with the arrival of Szczęsny, and it will become even more difficult following the signing of Juan Garcia from Espanyol and Ter Stegen’s recovery from injury.

Spanish newspaper Mundo Deportivo reported on Friday evening that Peña is unhappy with the change in his status at Barcelona and is therefore seriously considering leaving before his contract expires, rather than leaving for free next summer.

The newspaper added that Peña does not want to leave Spain and would prefer a move to another La Liga club, but Barcelona is eager to sell him quickly.

Iñaki has informed the club of his desire to leave this summer, even if it means sacrificing a loyalty bonus tied to completing his contract through June 2026. Celta Vigo is reportedly considering making an offer for his signature in the near future.
