Barcelona is preparing for a new season that will bring many technical and administrative changes, with German coach Hansi Flick remaining at the helm. It is clear that the Catalan leadership is moving toward a comprehensive restructuring of the starting lineup, particularly in some key positions that caused internal crises last season.
According to information from the Spanish newspaper El Nacional, Hansi Flick is working diligently to prepare for his second season at Barcelona and has already begun making firm decisions. Among the German coach’s first actions was identifying players who will not be part of his future plans, including Ansu Fati and Iñaki Peña.
Flick made his stance clear: both players must leave the team before the start of pre-season in July, as they are not part of his strategy for the upcoming campaign and will not receive any playing time. His objective is to begin the season with a stable squad, free from uncertainty or elements that could disrupt team cohesion.
The end of Ansu Fati’s career at Barcelona appears imminent. The Catalan club is close to finalizing a loan move to AS Monaco, with an option to buy. The deal is expected to be completed in the coming days. The Spanish winger, who has struggled to return to top form following a series of injuries, has acknowledged his need for regular playing time and renewed confidence, which he hopes to find away from Camp Nou.
Iñaki Peña’s situation seems more complicated. With the arrival of Juan Garcia and the decision to retain Szczesny as the second-choice goalkeeper, there is no longer room for a third option. Flick has communicated this decision directly to the club, while Deco is actively working to secure a new destination for the player.
The main challenge lies in the lack of serious offers. Although Iñaki has drawn interest from lower-division teams, he has yet to convince any top-flight club. Nevertheless, there remains hope that a suitable offer may arise from within Spain or abroad in the coming weeks.
If no agreement is reached, the club may resort to terminating the goalkeeper’s contract, although this remains a last option. Flick is determined not to begin pre-season with players excluded from his plans, and he has made this position unequivocally clear.
