A blow and a long-awaited return at Barcelona ahead of the Atlético clash… De Jong, Pedri, and Raphinha’s status officially confirmed

Spanish media reports have revealed the latest developments regarding the availability of Barcelona’s Frenkie de Jong, Pedri, and Rafinha for the first leg of their Copa del Rey semi-final against Atlético Madrid, scheduled for next Thursday at the Wanda Metropolitano Stadium.

De Jong Ready for Madrid Clash

The Spanish newspaper AS confirmed that Dutch midfielder Frenkie de Jong is close to being included in the starting lineup against Atlético Madrid, after the coaching staff opted not to risk him in the match against Real Mallorca.

German coach Hansi Flick explained the reason for the player’s absence, saying:

“Frenkie wasn’t at his peak physical condition, so we decided not to play him.”

The newspaper indicated that De Jong had been suffering from a minor thigh injury in recent days, but it is not expected to prevent him from starting in the upcoming match.

Rafinha Nearing Return

Meanwhile, the coaching staff is awaiting positive news regarding Brazilian midfielder Rafinha, who missed the matches against Albacete and Real Mallorca due to a right thigh injury.

The player is expected to return to group training in the coming hours, with a strong intention to start him against Atlético Madrid, provided he passes the final fitness test.

Pedri Out of the Picture

On the other hand, Spanish star Pedri has been ruled out of the Copa del Rey match, as he continues his rehabilitation program according to the plan set by the medical staff.

Pedri is expected to receive the green light to return to action against Levante on February 22, after recovering from the right hamstring injury he sustained in the Prague match, which was initially expected to sideline him for approximately a month.
