A surprise deal on the horizon… Barcelona is close to snatching Borussia Dortmund’s star for free at the direct request of Hansie Flick!

Barcelona continues its search for reinforcements in midfield, a position that has historically formed the backbone of the Catalan club’s identity, particularly given its heavy reliance on graduates from the La Masia academy.

Despite boasting a talented group of midfielders, such as Frenkie de Jong, Pedri, and Gavi, along with rising stars like Marc Casado, Marc Bernal, Fermín López, and Dani Olmo, the club’s management is still considering adding a new attacking option to provide the team with different tactical solutions.

In this context, Sky Sports Germany reports that Barcelona is closely monitoring the situation of Borussia Dortmund’s Julian Brandt, with the possibility of signing him on a free transfer during the upcoming transfer window.

Brandt’s contract with Dortmund expires on June 30, and the player has already informed the club’s management of his decision not to renew it. This decision was made during a meeting with coach Niko Kovač and sporting director Sebastian Kehl, making his departure from the Bundesliga at the end of the season almost certain.

Barcelona’s sporting director, Lars Ricken, confirmed that the player will leave the club upon the expiration of his contract, opening the door for interested European clubs to acquire his services without paying a transfer fee.

Barcelona coach Hansi Flick is well-acquainted with Brandt from his previous appearances for the German national team, which could give the Catalan club an advantage in the race to sign him.

However, the deal will not be easy, as Barcelona faces stiff competition from Arsenal, who are also keen to acquire the player and are capable of offering a higher financial package.

On the other hand, personal factors could play a significant role in the player’s decision, especially since his girlfriend is Catalan and he has already begun learning Spanish in recent months, which some interpret as an indication of a possible move to Spain.

Brandt possesses great tactical versatility, capable of playing as a playmaker or on either wing, which could provide Barcelona with additional options in midfield and attack next season.
