Barcelona received a significant morale boost ahead of their crucial upcoming matches, as Lamine Yamal and Eric Garcia returned to full training during the session held at the Joan Gamper Sports City, alleviating concerns about their fitness in recent days.
Defender Eric Garcia had been undergoing special training after experiencing slight muscle fatigue, which kept him out of the previous match against Newcastle United at St. James’ Park. Meanwhile, Lamine Yamal missed a training session due to a minor illness, before the club confirmed his full recovery and return to normal training.
The pair are now available for selection by German coach Hansi Flick, who is preparing for an important match against Sevilla next Sunday at Camp Nou, a game that is part of a series of consecutive home matches for the Catalan team in the coming period.
Barcelona will play three consecutive home matches: facing Newcastle in the Champions League midweek, then Rayo Vallecano in La Liga, before the highly anticipated clash against Sevilla.
Barcelona’s players are heavily focused on the European second leg against Newcastle, after the first leg ended in a 1-1 draw at St. James’ Park. That result came in the dying moments when Lamine Yamal converted a penalty following a brilliant individual effort from Dani Olmo.
Due to the congested fixture schedule, Hansi Flick is expected to make several changes to the starting lineup against Sevilla, resting some key players and giving opportunities to those who haven’t had much playing time recently.
However, Barcelona cannot afford to drop any points, especially with the title race intensifying. The Catalan side trails Real Madrid by just four points.
This comes at a time when Real Madrid is riding high after their resounding 3-0 victory over Manchester City at the Santiago Bernabéu in the first leg of their Champions League Round of 16 tie.
Lamine Yamal is likely to retain his place in the starting lineup given his recent impressive form, while some players who have been suffering from fatigue, such as Pedri, Rafinha, and Marc Casado, may be rested.
On the other hand, Flick may give more opportunities to some of the younger players to prove themselves, such as Xavi Espart, who recently made his debut against Newcastle and delivered a standout defensive performance, as well as Marc Casado and Ronnie Bardagji, who are looking to regain their place in the starting eleven during this crucial stage of the season.
