Croatian Luka Modric, Real Madrid midfielder, is facing difficulties adapting to the Merengue’s style of play this season.
According to the Spanish newspaper “Relevo”, Real Madrid is going through its first turmoil this season, as the team stumbled in two matches during the first 3 rounds, which raised the feeling that the team needs changes, in addition to making painful decisions and managing special cases such as Modric’s situation.
It indicated that Modric raised doubts about his performance at the beginning of the season after participating in 126 minutes, and he is among the few in the team who participated in all matches this season.
Coach Carlo Ancelotti relies on Modric, because he considers him a key player who gives the team control, security and smoothness in the game, but strangely enough, the player’s passing accuracy in all matches is less than 90%, which is unusual in the Croatian star’s career.
Modric’s passing accuracy against Mallorca was 87.8%, against Valladolid 78.3%, and against Las Palmas 87.2%.
The Spanish network said: “In an unorganized team like the current Real Madrid, Modric finds it more difficult, because he does not find partners in the game and cannot even control the matches in the final stages when he enters as a substitute, because the team is designed to be more prepared to run and not to pass, which does not suit Luka’s rhythm, and despite his superior quality, it is not always enough to integrate into the matches.”
It added: “Managing the situation of a veteran player like Modric, who is approaching the end of his career with ambitions for more titles, is a complex matter for Ancelotti, who wants to give him the value he deserves, but he also realizes that talented young players are pressing and seem more prepared for the style that Real Madrid wants to implement.”
It concluded: “Although the absence of Bellingham and Camavinga helps Modric increase his playing minutes, Ancelotti is very keen to introduce Arda Guler instead of Luka, because the Turk is imposing himself, and there is a part of the senior management impressed by his level that improves with each match.”
