The repercussions of Barcelona’s loss to Monaco in the first round of the Champions League are still casting a shadow over the atmosphere inside the club, as the team’s fans were hoping for a valuable victory.
It is worth noting that Barcelona fell into the trap of defeat against Monaco by two goals to one after playing with a reduced number of players for 85 minutes after the early expulsion of defender Eric Garcia.
In his interview with Radio Catalunya, club legend Carles Puyol expressed his dissatisfaction with this loss, directing harsh criticism at a number of players.
Puyol stated, “Hansi Flick must be careful in the upcoming matches and exclude goalkeeper Ter Stegen from the team’s lineup and expel him from the team as soon as possible.”
Puyol stated that Ter Stegen has become a huge burden on the Catalan team and has caused Barcelona to lose its prestige in recent years, and if Flick does not exclude him, he will be destined to fail like those who came before him.
Puyol was not satisfied with that and addressed the German coach with the need to exclude Lewandowski from the starting lineup in the decisive matches, justifying that by saying that the Polish striker is not the player that Flick had previously trained at Bayern Munich due to his advanced age.
Puyol added that Lewandowski does not press well and also misses many easy opportunities as we saw in previous matches, and Puyol demanded that the young striker Pau Victor be given the opportunity to appear as a starter with the team.
It is worth noting that Pau Victor proved his great quality in the pre-season tour and was able to score against Real Madrid in the Clasico that was held in the United States of America.
