Barcelona will be without their first-choice goalkeeper for the rest of the season, giving them the opportunity to head to the transfer market.
According to the rules, a player with a current contract cannot be transferred, but a free agent can be signed and unemployed players are those who do not have a contract with any club after the registration period has ended.
According to information from the Spanish newspaper Defensa Central, Barcelona’s options include well-known goalkeepers such as Keylor Navas, Edgar Badia, Loris Karius, Jordi Masip and Tomas Vaclik, and they could either sign one of them or rely on a young player until the winter transfer window.
If Barcelona succeeds in signing Navas, it would be a huge blow to Real Madrid, as he is known to be a fan of the royal team and has expressed his admiration for the club in the past.
Last summer, Navas offered himself to Real Madrid but the club did not show interest, due to their lack of confidence in the players in the second period of play.
The newspaper added that Navas informed Barcelona of his agreement to reduce his salary in order to join the club in the coming days, and Deco wants to conclude the deal due to the great experience that the Costa Rican goalkeeper has.
The newspaper concluded that the final decision is in the hands of Flick, the technical director of the Catalan team, and if he gives his approval for the player’s arrival, the deal will be concluded immediately.
